It is important for homebuyers to discern the difference between home inspectors and building inspectors, which are two different creatures. The former search for noticeable flaws in a completed residential property, while the latter mainly uphold building codes and construction regulations. New-home owners who desire an inspector to oversee each stage of the building process would benefit most from a professional who has knowledge of municipal building inspection but who is primarily a home inspector. For final inspections, however, a home inspector is more appropriate. For maximum coverage, meanwhile, it would be best to retain a home inspector who formerly was a building inspector.
